Extreme atmospheric events in Southern Brazil and vulnerability of the hydropower sector
This project aims at evaluating the vulnerability of the hydroeletric system to the occurrence of extreme weather events in southern and southeastern Brazil. The methodology involves a wide range of approaches to data analysis, including in situ surface measurements, remote sensing, statistical data from hydroelectric companies and regulatory agencies, atmospheric modeling and assessment of the human occupation and use of the surface. The project was designed to converge different spatial and temporal scales and multidisciplinary approaches in a single scope, and the final goal is to establish how extreme weather events and climate act on the system of hydropower generation and distribution.
