Research Interests
Prof Krecl graduated in Meteorology (Universidad de la República, Uruguay, 2000), and earned her MSc (Meteorology, 2001) and PhD (Applied Environmental Sciences, 2008) degrees from Stockholm University (Sweden). She worked as a Postdoc scholar at University of Leeds (UK, 2008-2009) and State University of Londrina (Brazil, 2010). Now she is an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) at the Hydraulic Research Institute – Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. The main research areas include the physico-chemical characterization of atmospheric pollutants in different environments (street canyon, highways, urban background stations, rural, and sites impacted by residential wood combustion emissions) with special interest in black carbon, identification and source apportionment of emission sources, and application of atmospheric models in air quality studies. Her research techniques comprise the use of particle counters, gas analysers, thermo-optical analysers for aerosol EC and OC contents, and black carbon mass loadings based on aerosol optical absorption.
